Colombian coal miner Cerrejon exported 1.85 million tonnes of coal in December, surging 68.2% from the year before, but falling 7.5% compared with the preceding month, according to data from Naves.
Naves forecast the total exports of the company to reach 22.65 million tonnes in 2021, surging 66.5% from 13.60 million tonnes in 2020.
The company failed to beat the previous goal to export 24-25 million tonnes of coal in 2021 as production was affected by unusual rainfalls, the pandemic and workers' strike.
In January, miner Glencore announced that it had completed the acquisition of a stake in the Cerrejon coal mine from Anglo American and BHP Billiton, and had received regulatory approval.
In December last year, Cerrejon exported 583,200 tonnes of coal to Turkey, a month-on-month increase of 10%; 377,000 tonnes to Brazil, up 67.6%; and 217,000 tonnes to the northern Europe, rising 20.6%.
