China imported 7.745 million tonnes of coking coal in June, increasing 55.4% from a year ago and 15.2% month on month, showed the latest data released by General Administration of Customs (GAC).
The import value was $1.25 billion, down 3.2% year on year yet up 3.7% on the month, putting the average import prices calculated at $161.4/t, falling $97.8/t from the preceding year and $17.8% from May.
Coking coal imports from January to June totaled 45.61 million tonnes, rising 75.0% on the year, with the import value increasing 21.7% to $8.63 billion.
China's anthracite imports reached 2.11 million tonnes in June, up 56.5% compared to the same month last year and 42.7% on the month, GAC data showed.
Import value of anthracite totaled $320 million, gaining 4.7% year on year and 17.8% from the previous month. The average import price was calculated at $152.1/t, down $75.2/t year on year and $32.3/t month on month.
In the first half of 2023, China imported 9.78 million tonnes of anthracite, surging 104.4% year on year. The aggregate import amounts came in at $1.92 billion, climbing 85.1% on the year, data showed.
