Russia's coal production rose for the third consecutive month in April, according to data from the Russian Federal State Statistics Service.

The country's coal output reached 36.7 million tonnes in April, up 0.68% from March and 6.84% year over year.

About 76% of Russia's coal came from Siberia, at 28.07 million tonnes. Siberian coal output was up 1.79% month over month and 7.63% from April 2022.

By coal type, Russian anthracite production was 2.39 million tonnes in April, rising 12.81% from March and 21.47% year over year. Coking coal output was 8.38 million tonnes, up 0.63% from March and 8.69% year over year.

Other bituminous coal production reached 18.17 million tonnes, up 2.44% from March but down 0.25% year over year. Lignite production was 7.76 million tonnes, down 6.14% month on month but up 20.2% from a year ago.

In the first four months of 2023, Russia's total coal production reached 143 million tonnes, up 0.06% from the same period in 2022.
