Turkey Apr coal imports fall to 11-mth low, yet up 17.7% YoY

Turkey's coal imports in April rose 17.74% on the year but dropped 39.14% on the month, marking the lowest level since June 2022, showed data from Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).


Turkey imported 2.43 million tonnes of coal during the month, according to the TUIK. The value of imports was registered at $368 million, falling 29.3% from a year ago and 34.95% from March.



It can be calculated that average import price was at $151.58 per tonne in April, down 39.95% from the year-ago level yet up 6.88% month on month.


In January-April, Turkey imported a total 12.02 million tonnes of coal, rising 18.53% from the previous year, with value down 4.28% to $1.95 billion.


Turkey's imports of bituminous coal reached 2.15 million tonnes in April, climbing 36.57% year on year but declining 35.45% month on month. The value of bituminous coal imports fell 15.17% YoY and 23.11% MoM to $287 million.


Turkey's coking coal imports amounted to 0.22 million tonnes in the month, slumping 43.08% YoY and 63.91% MoM. Anthracite coal imports declined 42.49% YoY but gained a month-on-month rise of 16.57% to 58,800 tonnes.


In April, Turkey imported 94,500 tonnes of coke, down 14.51% YoY but surged 270% MoM. The value of coke imports fell 39.54% YoY but soared 262.9% MoM to $34.72 million.
