Coal-rich Ordos city in northern China's Inner Mongolia region has produced and sold more coal since the start of the year in a move to ensure energy supply to the nation, Inner Mongolia Daily reported.
Ordos has been accelerating resumption of coal mines and capacity expansion approval. So far, 46 coal mines had been approved to restore production this year, increasing capacity of 95.70 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) and 87 coal mines had been given green light to expand capacity, with capacity of 121 Mtpa.
The city has 243 coal mines in operation, with a combined capacity of 866 Mtpa and daily coal sales reaching over 2.35 million tonnes.
The accumulative coal output in Ordos so far this year reached 722 million tonnes so far this year, up 113 million tonnnes or 18.6% year on year.
The city sold 692 million tonnes of coal during the same period, up 122 million tonnes or 21.35% compared with the same period in the previous year, including outbound coal delivery of 539 million tonnes, which climbed 95 million tonnes or 21.39% year on year.
On the base of 694 million tonnesof medium- and long-term contract coal supply, Ordos city also undertakes over 89 million tonnes of supply tasks assigned by the nation, including 45.4 million tonnes of supplementary contracts of imported coal, 29.5 million tonnes to coastal power plants, 6 million tonnes to the three northestern provinces for heating use, as well as 8.41 million tonnes for winter heating supply in Inner Mongolia, local media reported.
